The course aims at enabling international postdocs to navigate the German non-academic job market. We focus on identifying potential fields of work and suitable employers. How can I come up with ideas for key words to try out on major job portals? Methodologically, we draw on a mix of inputs based on the trainer’s practical experience, practical exercises using Metaplan boards, and group work. In this way, we will find out what information can be extracted from job advertisements and how to tailor an application comprising a CV and cover letter specifically to that role. Particular focus is placed on the CV: how long should it be, what structure promotes readability and clarity, and how do I explain my academic career to a non-academic reader?

Learning targets:

The participants will be able to:

• use a variety of job boards for non-academic job searches,
• understand job advertisements and derive key information from them,
• use LinkedIn for research and networking, and
• design CVs and cover letters for non-academic applications in Germany.

Target group:

PostDocs, who are interested in embarking non-academic careers.

Organisational details:

• When you register as a mandatory participant, please note that attending the training is part of your official duties and an unexcused absence is a violation of your official responsibilities. Any further education undertaken during your working hours is subject to the prior approval of your manager.

• Fee for external postdocs: 160,00 €. Free for postdocs of CAU.

• Cancellation and No-Show for Paid Participation
  Registration may be canceled free of charge up to 48 hours before the start of the training course, unless otherwise expressly agreed. The date and time the cancellation is received by the training provider shall be decisive.
  If cancellation occurs less than 48 hours before the start of the training, the full participation fee is due. This also applies if the participant fails to attend the training without prior cancellation.
  The participant reserves the right to prove that the actual loss was less.
